Tuas

By Kington
The Tua
What is affectionately known to the Singaporean community as the Tua is a genuine social phenomenon of more-than-infrequent occurrence in the realm of interpersonal relations. It involves the failure to hold up one’s end of the bargain in a pre-arranged exchange. Most often, this is realized in agreements to meet and/or partake of a common activity. This often leaves the person on whom the tua is executed somewhat stranded, and can lead to irreparable rifts in friendships and/or permanent emotional scarring. It is of paramount importance to understand the different types of tuas that can be executed, in order to avoid falling victim to one of them; for often, a tua (or potential tua) can be identified even before its actual execution, and certain preventive – and sometimes retaliatory – measures can be taken to minimize its effect.

The Tua of (Unavoidable) Circumstances
This is the only tua in which the tua-ster is absolved of all blame – it is a tua which comes about not through any conscious choice on the part of the tua-ster. In other words, the tua-ster is forced, by extenuating circumstances beyond his control, to execute the dreaded tua! Some circumstances which are considered reasonable would include a death in the family or unfavorable weather conditions - although it is commonly accepted that what constitutes reasonable grounds for the tua is a subjective and touchy issue, and one which should be established upfront between friends. Unfortunately this is not a subject easily broached, and it is a pity that the limits to which one would accept reasonable grounds for tua can only be discovered by testing them.

The Tua of Greener Pastures
Let it be said that if a friend ever pulled the tua of Greener Pastures on you, it would be time to seriously re-evaluate your friendship. This particular tua involves the executing of the tua and the breaching of a agreed meeting for the reason that the opportunity to pursue a course of action that potentially yielded greater utility presented itself. In other words, something more interesting popped up. Persons with the emotional capacity to feel no remorse at committing the tua of Greener Pastures are dangerous persons with sick and twisted minds, and should be avoided at all costs.

The Tua of Poor Organisation
There are many different forms which the tua of Poor Organisation can take – as such this is a tua which one should be on an especial lookout for. Causes of this tua would include miscommunications, misinterpretations, an inability to commit to and confirm meeting times and places and other such very avoidable situations. It is also possible for the tua of Poor Organisation to be simultaneously inflicted on more than one person. In the simple two-party example, we can see how a failure to specify a meeting place can lead to both persons to be waiting for each other concurrently, each gradually coming under the impression that he/she had been tua-ed.

The Tua of Assumed Participation
This happens when the victim mistakenly assumes that the tua-ster has signified intent of participation, and is such let down when he/she indicates his/her true intent. Even though blame cannot be attributed to the tua-ster for creating such a situation, it would still be beneficial to all if potential tua-sters could avoid sending out mixed signals which could be easily misinterpreted.

The Domino-effect Tua
The Domino-effect tua is easily explained when you consider that each person has a set schedule, and once that set schedule is disrupted, it can be hard to get it back on track. This tua happens when the tua-ster has himself been tua-ed for a certain event, and thus decides, or is forced to, tua the next person that he is supposed to meet, God bless his poor unsuspecting soul. In the equilibrium situation, it follows that if someone is late to meet you by 20 minutes (thereby tua-ing you by 20 minutes), you will tua the next person you meet by 20 minutes – and so it follows ad infinitum, resulting in a Domino-effect tua.

The Snowball-effect Tua.
This is an extended, more insidious version of the Domino-effect tua. The Snowball-effect tua operates on the same tit-for-tat principles as the Domino-effect tua; unfortunately in this tua there exists a multiplier in the conversion from tit to tat. This happens when the tua-ster is tua-ed by 20 minutes and subsequently tuas his next appointment by an hour. Why, you may ask? Unfortunately, no one can see into the perverse workings of the mind of the tua-ster, and that question may remain unanswered forever.

The In-Your-Face Tua
This is a particularly strange phenomenon even within the sociological structure of the tua, and happens when the tua-ster shows up for his intended meeting, but for some reason or another is unable to fulfill the duties expected of him. The tua-ster thereby shows up, but politely informs his victim that he is unable to accompany him/her, wherever they might have previously agreed upon. This is a particular difficult tua to foresee and thus prevent, and is also one in which the repercussions are worth discussion. On one hand, the victim still feels the full weight of the tua, yet on the other, he finds it impossible to blame the tua-ster and should perhaps even be grateful for his appearance. The feeling of not being able to blame someone or something for a tua is frustrating beyond description, which explains the dangerous nature of this particular one.

The Pre-emptive Tua
This is a particularly useful tactic to prevent yourself from falling victim to a tua, and involves the tua-ing of the would-be tua-ster, before the actual execution of any tua. This normally involves the sensing of the potential for the tua, and thus nipping the problem in the bud by executing a tua of your own. The problem in this case would be the proneness to hypersensitivity, thereby negating an otherwise satisfying outcome for the sake of one which may not be so (the classic Prisoners’ Dilemma).

The list of tuas above may not be definitive, and they are by no means exhaustive. There exists the possibility of combo tuas (a particularly sinister force), eg a Snowball Pre-emptive Tua of Greener Pastures. A well known tua-ster has also been heard to say that all tuas can be reduced, by means of rhetoric and logic (read: flimsy excuses) to the tua of Unavoidable Circumstances. It is plain to see that our understanding of tuas is not only limited, but by definition can only be in retrospect. It is hoped that a greater awareness of the different types of tuas, as well as the conditions in which they occur, can lead to a world safer from the evil machinations of tua-sters.

Blades+Groggy person+Dark room+Late at night= Accident

By Kington
Spm is nearly here.

So that means staying up late and flipping the pages till they come off their hinges.

So that leads to wierd things happening at night very very wierd things like accidents with blades lots of blades.

So yeah I wanted to cut the answers off my other history book.
So I opened the casing for the fresh new super sharp japanese made blades.
Then while I was looking for the boxcutter I tilted the box....Downwards.

Heard the thunk of blades hitting the chair....*looks* down.....Eh I can't see what happened? *looks to the right hand* Oh it's got the blade in it.

Just 1? OH SHIT!!Oh there it is..... few inches to the left....is my left foot....really "langkah kiri"(bad luck)Tough skin!!! Wooottttt!!! Thats all that happened in the end.Yeah anyway I'm using a lamp that you can see the reflection off in the pic anyway. So the room is pretty dark. Taken at 2:30 am btw.

Bored after studying history? Play with mosquito racquets and dead mosquitos!!! Watch the wing.

Sexist comment? I think not.

By Kington
http://sparkles-pink.livejournal.com/25226.html

Some guy recently sent in a mock letter of complaint to highlight an officials overly sexist comment. And Pui yean blogged about it.

We'll actually I think it may be incited the sudden overly sexist comments surge said by "some" parties.

Can't say anymore once again ISA is after all a dangerous thing in this country.

Anyway the first comment was said in australia.

“If you take out uncovered meat and place it outside on the street, or in the garden or in the park, or in the backyard without a cover, and the cats come and eat it ... whose fault is it, the cats or the uncovered meat?” he asked.

“The uncovered meat is the problem. If she was in her room, in her home, in her hijab, no problem would have occurred.”

Seem familiar?

DATUK Abu Bakar Hassan also commented that the reason why a CCTV camera was focused on a reporter's thighs, because in a nutshell "too sexy" strong libido.

She was just wearing a skirt anyway!! As a guy I can say with total confidence those clothes are a TURN OFF.

Well anyway in actual reality right.....Eat your heart out pro feminists.....The author of it is Jeslyn Chan ouch girls jcyh1981, female.

*yeap uhuh nods*

Totally sarcasm. I'm no expert in sarcasm but I definately use it enough to be able to tell it is when I see it.

Which leads to the main point. Her sarcasm wasn't clear enough. I know my Engrish isn't top class anyway but I know for sure with tone I can definately imply anything I want. Even if I didn't say it somehow 1 week later it seems like I said it.

Although some of us may write very well getting GCE 119 Cambridge A for english and all and I still lack that bit of magic but I'm happy that I can impress a point.

OH YEAH.

Here's a link for a sarcastic comment executed PERFECTLY. The author was trying to poke fun of an Elitist comment passed in Singapore.

Read and compare.

SPM strain?

By Kington
After so many major exams....

I think I can truthfully say that....

Me and stress kinda work well.

He brings in the pressure to study and I succumb to that pressure to go and get those A's.

Even with that I never really do feel stressed though.

But lately I think i'm succumbing to the "devils" of examinations (blame spm)

I'm permanantly cranky nowadays(hence the last post)

I'm screwing up a lot and pissing people off.

I'm also getting wierder?

I put a hole in my bed...

I've also been feeling a bit self destructive recently but I'm a man of through consideration. So no cutting myself up....at least yet...
I've been having wierd urges to want to see something bleed...

I think before this is over I've gotta get on tranquilisers and barbiturates.

ON THE FLIPSIDE.

I GOT A NEW CAM.

IT'S BLOODY KICK ASS.

I'VE GOT NO USE FOR IT SINCE I'M RETIRED. DARN ><.

Land Leeches

By Kington

Yeap I know what you must be thinking.Thats a mutant leach. And indeed it is!!!

So what is a leach?

Definition
leech
noun [C]
1 a fat worm which lives in wet places and fastens itself onto the bodies of humans and animals to take their blood

2 DISAPPROVING a person who gives attention to someone over a long period in order to get their money or support

BLOODSUCKING!!

But yeah it's not about them little critters it's about those nasty friends I have.

Normally Daniel,Kein Yew and me would go around "leeching" off subjective pads or objective pads during exam times but thats just paper.

Ever since trials I've picked up the scent for leaks in exams even if they were wrong *cough* sejarah *cough*.

Then I'd always have some people that nicely and politely ask me for some of the juice.

I generally provide........but not anymore.

You guys are really infuriating me or at least some of you guys la. I don't mind giving a few fellas that I'm close to or memang trading with me already.

But leeching endlessly is just going to piss me off take don't give then when you don't need me you literally tell me to "Get lost?" I'm sorry man but if you just wanna be a leech. F*** off.

A quick glance on the msn list.......and poof they're gone bye bye.

After all if I'm not carefull they'll consume me.

With SPM you can really tell who you really should have as friends and who you shouldn't.

Deeparaya

By Kington
It's a great thing to live in Malaysia.

You've got great food.

A multicultural society.

Nice weather.

But the sad thing is during festive seasons everyone hops over to the emergency lane and makes it a F1 track.

And another sad thing is the highways are all clogged making 2 hour journeys into 5-6 hours belian people have pity for Yi Yun her journey is 6 hours.

But the last sad thing I have to say is that even with so many years of independance and an EVEN LONGER track record of living together in this multicultural society someone still had to complain about the "Deeparaya" greeting.

*It's pollitically incorrect to delve further into that so I will be leaving that out but lets just say it's no longer allowed to be published.....*

I think I'm going to open up a new blog which is just full of random posting of art soon.

House of the Sicilian

By Kington
Originating during the mid 19th century, the Mafia served as protection for the
large orange and lemon estates surrounding the city of Palermo. From this,
the
Mafia began to spread its roots among the landowners and politicians of
Sicily.
Forming strong links with the government (it is more than likely
that many
politicians were members or collaborators) the Mafia gained
significant power.

According to many Sicilians, the real name of the Mafia is Cosa Nostra, meaning 'our world, tradition, values'. Many have claimed, as did the Mafia turncoat Tommaso Buscetta, that the word mafia was a literary creation. Other Mafia defectors, such as Antonio Calderone and Salvatore Contorno, said the same thing. According to them, the real thing was "cosa nostra". To men of honour belonging to the organisation, there is no need to name it. Mafiosi introduce known members to other known members as belonging to "cosa nostra" (our thing) or "la stessa cosa" (the same thing). Only the outside world needs a name to describe it, hence the capitalized version of the words: Cosa Nostra.

But I didn't go to europe anyway so I didn't go to the house of mafia.

But I went to Pn. Cecilia's house though btw.

Wheeeeeee. That day was supposed to be a special day. When a few of the belian guys were about to shoot open some heads as a gang.

But Pui Yean was there when The Sicilian asked me to help her with her com. Curse my bravado and my good nature. If Pui Yean wasn't there I might have lied till the earth bended again. Tch.

Thanky anyway Yean for helping me with the Nostalgia crap again.

So there I was in her car at 1:40 without having to ride in the booth la.

In the car we had:
  1. Pn. Monica(talking)
  2. Pn. Cecilia(driving AND talking)
  3. Rebecca (Pn. Monica's daughter)(clamming)
  4. Me (clamming and sweating)

So after we got Pn. Monica her monitor and sent her home it was time to make the SUPER long trip to USJ home of the sicilian.

On the way there I kept reassuring her that she was doing me a favour by keeping me out of the cyber cafe and that she could help me with moral all the way.

The sicilian likes music.

The sicilian's ancient piece of hardware.
A larger view of her room.
A view of the floor.

Anyway the buissness was her com was bellyaching from the lack of hard drive space.

5 gigs total does not make a hard drive these days. It makes a ipod.

After explaining to her the many many methods of solving her "real estate" problem with analogies of coffe tables houses shelves and desks she understood the situation.

I've gotta ask her soon which did she go for...

Getting a new cupboard.

Getting a larger coffe table.

Or getting another shelf on the cupboard.

Then she drove me back from USJ in the super heavy rain while thanking me and insisting she'd take me to yumcha and discussing sejarah techniques and moral techniques too.

The drive back was pretty scary.

Cause it was raining so hard I wondered how she saw where we were going to begin with.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are no photos of any other parts of the house because the gracious host refused to let me take any photos to begin with all the pics were taken when she went to go settle something.

The Classic Crime - Headlights

By Kington
A summer drive away from dying: a broken heart nothing to lose.
I know it hurts so bad just trying to please the ones you hate to love.
And I wrote this note about someone I used to know
so I'd remember how life can be so short when your left alone to wonder
how it is someone opens and shuts the door.

I know your cold but come home.
It's a shame how short we all have come.

You set your mind on cruise control; knuckles grip the wheel in fear to let it go.
Love is empty, love is cruel, love it blindly breaks the rules.
How could you have been a fool?
It's something all of us go through.
You choke back tears and swallow lies but those wiper blades won't fix you eyes,
count on having clouded vision for at least a little while.

And I know you're cold but come home: it's a shame how short we all have come.
And I know you're cold but come home.

Please don't face the headlights of the oncoming cars along.
We wont forget the past.
We wont forget the past. (And I know you're cold)
Say all the answers and I will let you go
I wont look back
and I wont look back.
Say all the answers
and I will let you go.
I will let you go.
I will let you go

Say all the answers and I will let you go
I won't look back
I won't look back.
I won't look back
I won't look back.

Please don't face the headlights of the oncoming cars along
and I will let you go..

Crazy Night

By Kington
There was no cabaret last night. Nope no exotic birds nor woman either. Nah not even pink elephants and bailey's.

Just 2 long conversations with 2 great friends.

Insane.

Now you know la when buds talk for a very long time all these love and buddy problems always come up so I'm kinda gonna just leave them out.

So 2 people.
1 male.
1 female.

Kept me up until 3.

Recently I managed to find Li San's blog.

Li San is this hot chick who is my mother's collegue's younger sister. Younger sister but still older than us so no hope la anyway not like there ever was much.

Kinda like a snowball's chance in hell.

BACK TO THE TOPIC uhh yeah so anyway the girl is and uber smart fella la so generally if I have the acorns of madness and bravery

she's got pearls of wisdom spewing out of her mouth like a pachinko machine.

Well the conversations lasted extremely long la last night anyway and I was so exhausted but when I opened her blog last night I kind of noticed that the blog kind of said something about our problems. Yeap all 3 of us.

She's the next oracle to be?

I'm just going to quote a bit here and there.

I know, girls are confusing right? *scratches head* Some of you out there would
probably go like'WTF??? BITCH!'. Sometimes I don't get girls either. Girls
usually don't appreciate what they have until they lose them.

I guess sometimes girls just enjoy the feeling of being wanted.
It doesn't matter who, when, where or how, but it's just flattering to feel
important, loved and being given all the attention to by someone. As for myself,
I wouldn't exactly call her a bitch. I just think that she's confused with what
she really wants and doesn't want. Ah well, aren't all teenagers so?

I'm so learning right now. But I guess we do have to do whats best for ourselves la anyway nothing really is a 100% solution. Doesn't mean you can't learn anything right?

29th sept 2006

Last thursday was my birthday actually but my friends set something up for Friday in the end.
My mom was sick(or at least claimed she was sick) that day so they didn't dare to come and do it here.
Their original plan was to say they were coming over for a group study session then suddenly surprise me with dancing cabaret and exotic birds.
So it ended up with them tricking me into going for breakfast with them and going to hon's house before the birdie suddenly said that we're having biscuits for breakfast.
I was about to give him a bollocking because:
a) Kin Keong bloody woke me up for this
b) I was feeling quite sour already
c) There wasn't even enough biscuits to go around
d) I didn't like those biscuits......
but suddenly..........

A GIANT METEOR BURST OUT FROM THE HEAVENS AND WE NEEDED SUPERMAN TO SAVE OUR LIVES.
Nah 10 people burst out from the kitchen shouting happy birthday.
I had the sudden urge to turn around and run off........
Cheeky bastards....

SNEAKY BUGGERS DAHM PANDAI TRICK ME LA!!! PAI SEH!!!! I JUST WOKE UP SHORT WHILE AGO LOOK I STILL GOT BED HEAD SOMO!!!
Kin Keong bloody didn't say shits man I was sweaty I had bed head I was wearing a dahm unmatching pair of clothes la!!

Well most of our ed board photos turned out not so well this year so we did this at the party.

Me and my main supplier of pictures for the party. The ever pink Pui Yean(Miss Yeannyloops)

The cake. The heart is actually supposed to be a crown....
Upon the mention of that cockup I decided to take advantage and scare Su Yi.
Kington: *stares at the cake while penyu is telling him about the cockup*
Kington: *turns head slowly to Su Yi* I'm only 16 la.
Su Yi: Huh? Yameh? Really meh?
Kington: Actually no. *LOL*
Su Yi: *pissed*

Cake cutting ceremony.

When we were opening the food and drinks Joel kinda grabbed a rootbeer bottle the wrong way. Causing it to shriek and puke all over the floor so we punished it for puking and put it outside.

Then we realised the error of our ways and that it was really Joel's fault so we sent him outside and locked the door behind him to get him to apologize to the rootbeer before we would let him back in.

Joel apologizing to the rootbeer. LOL.

In between we played some random games like puyo puyo, twisted metal, twister(which only had Darren the whole time coz most of us were shy), and Big 2 (cho dai di).

Yi Yun claimed she had played a Sailormoon version of puyo puyo before but......everyone owned her in it.....it was starting to get so sad we started to time how long it took for her to lose......
Don't worry la even if you suck at puyo puyo you make all of us look sucky in studies.

Peggy lost a round of big 2 and had to eat chilli as a penalty....^^

Lat lat dei dried chilli.....

Eventually things winded out and everyone had places to go and coz Kin Keong struck up a bargain with my mom to let me off for only 9-12. So I went home at 1230 XD.

Later on in the day I had 2 funny conversations with my mom.

Conversation 1

Mom: So you play all day arh shouldn't you be studying?
Me: No la I did work all afternoon then I went tuition I came back now back to work lo.
Mom: So you played all morning la?
Me: Actually it was kinda like I went to celebrate my birthday with my friends who wanted to celebrate it in the first place with me compared to you guys which just called home to wish me.
Mom: You were asleep la went I left the house.

The convo ended there because well there's no real proper comeback to my last statement.

Conversation 2

Mom: Your friend dunno how to bargain 1 la! He should've asked me "Aunty can we take your son out for 5 hours to celebrate his birthday?"
Mom: Like that I knock him down he still gets 4 hours! 4 hours a lot you know!!??

Kington: He good boy marh then it's not like bargaining was a very healthy thing to begin with. But I'm more surprised that even though you guys weren't going to do anything for my birthday you still capped him at 3 hours. A bit the gan right?
Mom: Blame your friend la for not knowing how to bargain lo.

Ganas sial. Never mind la Keong at least we did get away with something.....ehehehe....

I didn't feel like checking out the loot then so I just kept it till the next day.

The mailman came with a package from UK. With my name on it from my sister.

So with all the proper procedures my mom got to open it first and also got to go through all my presents first.

Whee?...

As usual the thing most parents say. "That shirt is ugly". No offense guys.

She also flipped open a random card and turned to me and asked me "Who's sarah??".
With my most defiant voice/mocking voice I said "Some hot chick"

Thanks Sarah.^^

Clockwise. In the plastic bag a shirt from O'Neil quicksilver wallet, a handmade card from Sarah and Henry, handmade card from Edwina, a card from the {BëLí-ĄñüŜ} gang and the package from uk from my sis.

My sister sent me Alpen Cereal bars!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!! I DAHM LIKE!!!!! Ok before you guys who pitched in and bought me all those things get jealous:

A) Alpen bars are the bomb

B) They cost a bomb

C) The package looked like the bomb
D) Mailing from the UK always costs a bomb.

Somehow you guys picked the right card for how I feel about all of you guys jumping out of the kitchen and scaring the balls off me.

Yeah I know when you guys opened the kitchen door I was already staring in that direction. But thats only because I react like an athlete sorry.

Anyway if you guys were wondering what the hell to get me in the first place I'll tell you now why it was so difficult to begin with.

a) I don't look like I have everything but you guys know I lack a lot of stuff
b) I seem as if I don't care if I AM missing all those stuff

Well the secret is I really only want few things. And they can't be bought.

Ah congratulations btw. You guys threw me my FIRST birthday party. Next time lets just go makan only la I'm happy enough like that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mar-xha suggested I get a piercing for my birthday....where guys?

28th Sept 2006

Yes I know it's the first time I've put a date as a blog title.

Let's see how many of you can figure out why.

Slept at 12:40.

Woke up at 6:40.

Groggily turn on handphone.

Curse at handphone with it's obscenely loud sms tone. Tries to go back to sleep. Curses handphone for spoiling a good night.

OK. WAKE UP TIME.

I empty my school bag and refill it with the day's necessities clothes la goggles la trunks and a towel.

It's Going Swimming With Khai Ming and The Crew Day.

Wheee.

Morning shadows.

Well actually going swimming with 2 guys sound shitty. So I called more people. Bloody penyu didn't want to come. Claimed willpower to do accounts.

So the suspects are...........

Su Ann is missing here coz she didn't come on that day.

Laura, Xin Dee and Trisha.

Always good to have the right company ^^.....hint hint....
We got there about 9:40 and Trisha and Xin Dee were just content to just talk talk by the pool side.....

So we got into the pool and started to swim.

Khai Ming embaressed us. Predictably.

After freezing for awhile and getting drilled by Khai Ming to swim Laura came.

Then Laura said coz she didn't bring any suit all of them didn't really want to swim.

So we got bullied by Khai Ming to keep going. And after awhile I got stubborn and refused to go so he gave up.

I was tired OK!!

Eventually we swam across the pool and checked out the girls which went to the kid's section.

Still dry. Shucks.

So we swam around and Khai Ming talked about swimming technique.

We checked again. Wet. HUH? So we joined them.

Guys stop drooling I know I said wet but thats just pool water. And they got in with their clothes on.

Ok compared to the bitching cold water in the mail pool. We have chilled water in the kid's pool. Ouch.

Then Group No.2 which is the original group who planned it all came. They get called group 2 cause they came late. Too bad.

After swimming and fooling around with the slide and stuff we went to shower and the guys played ping pong while the rest of us watched.

Then me and Su Ann hitched a ride home from Laura.

I walked to 7-11 after that and scooped up a Trophy ice cream. Had 4 slices of pizza for lunch.

Then took a nap shirtless because I had an inferno raging on my back. Sunburn. Like going to Australia and walking around shirtless during Summer. Crikey.

The rest of the day was pretty uninteresting so I'm just gonna leave it out but the begning was fun though.

This post was done purely with the intention to irritate those that wanted to read about the surprise my friends gave me.

Thats coming in the next post.

Bad day

By Kington
I've got a cold.

Strong one.

Shit.

My face is bleeding.

I've just found some bad info.

But I'm so sick I don't feel any shock or anything upon finding out I just feel numb.

I can barely stand now because I don't have the energy and I'm supposed to go to Edwina's place later.

I've also got Pn Yap's tuition later.

So the best way to describe how I'm feeling now is somewhere between the music clip on the last post and "The Fray- Vienna".
